Ak-Tyuz is a village in the Kemin district of the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan and the only settlement in the Ak-Tyuz district.

The village and the gorge of the same name are located 150 km from Bishkek at an altitude of 2,300 m above sea level. Ak-Tyuz means "white valley". It got this name due to the fact that the clay covering the slopes of the gorge contains a large amount of salt and they look white.

On this trip we will see several attractions:

  • - A fountain of 15 meters in height. The water rises above the tops of the trees. Local residents often organize picnics here, and in winter the fountain turns into a real block of ice.
  • - A large birdhouse
  • - An almost disappeared urban-type settlement, previously seething with life, thanks to the rare earth elements mining plant
  • - A quarry lake
  • - Birch grove
  • - We will walk to the panorama, from where we will see the Ak-Tyuz lake and perhaps collect mushrooms and medicinal herbs.

    • In autumn the gorge attracts attention with its bright colours, the birch grove is especially beautiful. Here you can take an easy walk (about 3 km one way), enjoy the beauty of the birch grove and at the end of the walk you will have a view of the lake.

    The Ak-Tyuz Valley is one of the beautiful places in Kyrgyzstan that is worth visiting. In one day, you can see several sights: a birch grove, lakes, an abandoned quarry. The slopes of the gorge are covered with forests of Tien Shan spruce and juniper thickets, where mushrooms, herbs, raspberries and barberries grow in abundance.

    This morning we leave Bishkek and have to cover a distance of 150 kilometers to the Ak-Tyuz gorge (2.5 hours by car). Upon arrival, a walk through a birch grove awaits us. The path is not difficult, about 3 km one way. We will go along the old road, and then along a well-trodden path. At the end of the route, a panoramic view of the valley and lakes awaits us. Along the way, you can have a picnic and relax in the birch grove.

    Then we will return to the car. We will stop in the village of Ak-Tyuz itself, walk along the streets, see the quarry lake and fountain. Return to Bishkek in the evening. End of the program.
