On December 4
On December 4, Kyrgyzstan celebrates a special day the Day of the Epic “Manas.”
This holiday was established in 2015 to preserve and pass on to future generations the greatest cultural heritage of the nation - the epic “Manas.”
“Manas” is more than an ancient story - it is the voice of the people, their memory, spirit, and language.
This heroic epic tells the tale of the warrior Manas, who united the Kyrgyz people and became a symbol of courage, unity, and devotion to his homeland.
Today, “Manas” is recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity and is listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest epic in the world.
More than 70 versions of the epic are known, with the most famous told by legendary manaschi: Sagymbai Orozbakov, Sayakbai Karalaev, and Jusup Mamai.
Across the country, festivals, readings, and exhibitions dedicated to the epic and Kyrgyz culture take place to honor this day.
It is a time when ancient verses come alive, legends are reborn, and hearts fill with pride for their history.
The epic “Manas” is more than a monument of words, it is the living energy of the people, an inspiration passed down from generation to generation.
