On August 11, we lost a dear friend and colleague
On August 11, we lost a dear friend and colleague — Nikolai Anatolyevich Totmyanin.
For many years we worked side by side, and during that time Nikolai became a true friend to us. He was always reliable, compassionate, and ready to help in any situation. You could set off into the mountains with him knowing you had someone by your side you could trust completely.
Nikolai was an incredibly strong and experienced mountaineer, with more than two hundred ascents in the Caucasus, Pamirs, Tien Shan, Karakoram, Himalayas, and Alps. He was a recipient of the Piolet d’Or (Golden Ice Axe) award and earned the title of Snow Leopard six times. Despite these remarkable achievements, he remained a humble man — few words, but a big heart.
For us, his departure is an irreplaceable loss. We grieve and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
Rest in peace, dear Nikolai. You will always remain with us — in our memories and in our hearts.

Farewell to Nikolai Totmyanin will take place on Sunday, August 17 at the Smolensk Orthodox Cemetery, 26 Kamskaya Street (St. Petersburg).
Nikolai was a devout and practicing Orthodox Christian, and the funeral service will be held at the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God at 1:30 PM.
The civil memorial service will begin at 2:30 PM at the gravesite. After the memorial, a commemorative meal will be held near the burial site.
