Between Heaven and Earth

Journey Through Western Tibet
(Between Heaven and Earth)

Tibet is a land where the sky seems so close you can almost touch it.

On this legendary “Roof of the World” lives a people who amaze with their calm wisdom, inner strength, and sincerity. Tibetans carry the legacy of centuries: the hum of spinning prayer wheels, colorful flags fluttering above mountain passes, and ancient monasteries remind us that spirituality here is part of everyday life — its breath and rhythm.

The landscapes of Tibet captivate with their pristine beauty and scale: azure lakes hidden in the stony embrace of mountains, sandy valleys where the wind whispers to silence, glaciers descending so close to the roads they seem alive. And, of course, Mount Everest — the highest peak on Earth, whose majesty defies words.

Our journey follows a route where every kilometer brings a new discovery.

We’ll cross nomadic lands and high mountain passes, see the sacred Yamdrok Lake shimmering in countless shades of blue, and reach Lake Manasarovar — one of Asia’s greatest spiritual centers, where the calm waters reflect the heavens.

Finally, we’ll arrive at the foot of Mount Kailash — a sacred mountain for millions. A place where, as people say, earth connects with the cosmos, and a person — with their inner self.

Day
1

Lhasa (3,650 m). Your journey begins in Chengdu, where you’ll be met at the airport, assisted with hotel check-in for a short rest, and enjoy a light lunch before the next flight. Then you’ll head to Lhasa, the heart of Tibet — a city where the air feels purer, the light brighter, and the sky incredibly near. From the very first moments, you’ll sense the unique atmosphere: space, silence, and serenity.

Meet your Tibetan guide upon arrival and transfer to the hotel.

Lhasa sits at 3,650 meters, so this day is devoted to rest and acclimatization.

Day
2

Lhasa. Today is an important and necessary part of the journey — obtaining temporary Chinese driver’s licenses. Your guide will assist with all formalities. After lunch, you’ll have free time to relax and acclimatize. You may stroll through the old town, sip a cup of hot butter tea, and feel the slow, peaceful rhythm of local life.

In the evening, the city fills with the scent of incense and the murmur of mantras — a moment when Tibet truly reveals itself.

Day
3

Lhasa. This day is dedicated to exploring Tibet’s cultural heart. In the morning, visit the Potala Palace — Tibet’s grand symbol and the former residence of the Dalai Lamas. Its ancient murals, golden stupas, chapels, and relics offer a glimpse into the living history of this land.

After lunch, visit Jokhang Monastery, the main spiritual sanctuary of the Tibetan people, where pilgrims arrive daily from every corner of the plateau.

The day concludes with a walk around Barkhor Street, Lhasa’s historic market district, filled with color, aroma, and sacred energy.

Day
4

Lhasa – Shigatse (3,840 m), 360 km. The great overland adventure begins along the famous G318 Highway. Your first stop is Yamdrok Tso Lake, one of Tibet’s three sacred lakes. Its waters gleam in shades of turquoise and cobalt, and the panoramic views are among the most breathtaking in all Tibet.

Then, continue to the Karola Glacier, descending almost to the roadside — a rare chance to see a glacier up close, where the snow seems to sparkle under the sun.

Evening arrival in Shigatse, an ancient city rich in Buddhist heritage.

Day
5

Shigatse – Everest Base Camp (5,200 m), 333 km. One of the most spectacular days of the journey. The route crosses three passes over 5,100 meters, with observation decks offering sweeping views of the Himalayas.

You’ll navigate the 108 hairpin turns on the way to the Everest Base Camp — a thrilling and scenic drive through some of Asia’s most dramatic landscapes. Visit Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest, nestled in a quiet valley beneath Everest itself.

Sunset at Everest is unforgettable: the peak glows gold and bronze before the stars fill the sky.

Day
6

Everest – Saga (4,640 m), 296 km. Begin the morning with sunrise over Everest — a moment of pure silence and awe. Continue through the Gyirong Valley, where forested ravines give way to open alpine plains.

Along the way, you’ll see the mighty Shishapangma (8,027 m) — the only 8,000-meter peak entirely within Tibet. Next stop: Peiku Tso Lake, a crystal-clear high-mountain lake reflecting the surrounding peaks.

Evening arrival in Saga, a key settlement of western Tibet whose name means “Land of Happiness.”

Day
7

Saga – Darchen (4,575 m), 493 km. Today’s drive crosses vast and wild terrain, home to herds of yaks, kiangs, antelopes, and gazelles. After lunch in Paryang, the route ascends to Mayum La Pass (5,216 m), decorated with prayer flags and mani stones.

Then you’ll reach Lake Manasarovar, sacred to multiple religions. Its crystal-clear waters and view of Mount Kailash create a breathtaking spiritual scene.

Evening arrival in Darchen.

Day
8

Darchen – Zanda (3,730 m), 294 km. The morning begins at the foot of Mount Kailash, a sacred mountain for four major religions. The year 2026, the Year of the Horse, is considered especially auspicious for visiting these holy lands.

After exploring the area around Kailash, travel through the ancient Kyunglung Valley, once part of the lost kingdom of Zhang Zhung, and continue toward Zanda.

The final stretch passes through the surreal Zanda Clay Forest, a natural labyrinth of giant earth “castles” and “towers” sculpted by wind and time.

Day
9

Zanda – Shiquanhe (Ali), 250 km. Morning visit to the ancient monastery complexes of Piyang and Dungkar, carved into mountain cliffs and decorated with murals and statues over a thousand years old.

After the visit, continue to Shiquanhe (Ali) — the administrative center of the Ngari region. Dinner and rest in a comfortable hotel.

Day
10

Shiquanhe – Lhasa – Chengdu. Morning flight from the high-altitude Ali Airport to Lhasa, and onward to Chengdu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Day
11

Departure. Free morning and transfer to the airport for your flight home. End of the program — until next time!
