A Journey Along the Alternative Road
(From North to South)
This extensive tour of Kyrgyzstan is designed for those who want to discover the country beyond its popular tourist routes. Over 11 days, you will travel across Kyrgyzstan from north to south before returning to Issyk-Kul along an alternative mountain road through Arslanbob, Kazarman and Son-Kul.
The journey begins in Bishkek and continues through the Suusamyr Valley, the Too-Ashuu and Ala-Bel passes, the Chychkan Gorge and the southern valleys of the country. You will explore ancient Osh, climb the sacred Sulaiman-Too Mountain, visit a bustling oriental bazaar and experience everyday life in southern Kyrgyzstan.
In Arslanbob, you will discover ancient walnut forests, while Uzgen offers an old minaret, rice fields and lunch in the home of a local family. One of the most unusual parts of the journey is the road through small mountain villages to Kazarman, followed by a hike to Saimaluu-Tash, where thousands of ancient petroglyphs have survived.
You will then travel to the high-altitude Son-Kul Lake, spend the night in a yurt camp and, if you wish, take a horseback ride. On the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, you can relax by the water, visit Barskoon Gorge and see the Skazka canyons in the evening light.
A special part of the programme is dedicated to discovering the culture of Kyrgyzstan. You will see how felt carpets and traditional yurts are made, learn about the art of hunting with golden eagles, taste homemade local dishes and spend time with local people.
This is an eventful journey along the lesser-known roads of Kyrgyzstan, where mountain landscapes, ancient history, nomadic traditions and the country’s living culture come together in one unforgettable route.
