(Incredible winter trip in Russia)
Baikal is an amazing creation of nature, a lake of amazing beauty. It is the deepest lake on the planet with crystal clear fresh water. It is also considered to be the oldest lake on the planet, its age is over 20 million years.
Baikal is located among the ranges of the Baikal Mountains, in the center of Eurasia. And although in all reference books it is called a lake, sometimes the word “sea” is too small for it. Its dimensions are impressive. But no figures are able to convey what you feel on its shores.
We can endlessly write about how unique and amazing this nature creation is. But there is one feature of the winter Baikal, which cannot be found anywhere else - it is transparent ice with incredible shades of turquoise color of all variants. In winter, Baikal turns into the largest skating rink on the planet. It freezes almost completely, except for one small area where the Angara flows out of it - the only river that originates from this amazing lake. The ice of Lake Baikal is so strong that SUVs can easily drive on it. And yet, on February 17, 1904, a winter railway was opened on the ice of the lake, and a steam locomotive, a full train passed here.
The surface of the lake at this time of the year resembles a mirror. Thanks to supernatural transparency, you can even see underwater inhabitants and stones at the bottom in areas of shallow depth.
We will drive along this intricate ice track, see and feel all the charms of winter Baikal, and be sure to capture the natural beauties of this region clad in snow and ice, impregnable, but so alluring; cold, but filled with hospitality and warmth of human hearts, fun and joy from contact with the great miracle of our planet.
