Climbing Kilimanjaro
(Africa, Tanzania)

“Roof of Africa” - these words already cause a great desire to visit the top of Kilimanjaro and look down on Africa.

Kilimanjaro is a volcano and it is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. To be honest, who wouldn’t dream of meeting the dawn standing at the top of the highest mountain on the continent? Here they are - the most beautiful DAWNS are on Mount Kilimanjaro.

The mountain is located 300 km south of the equator in Tanzania, on the border with Kenya, in East Africa. It has three separate mountain peaks: in the west it is Shira (3962 m), in the east it is Mawenzi (5149 m), and the highest central peak is called Kibo (5895 m). Glaciers lie on the northern and southern slopes of Kibo, and tropical jungles lie at the foot of the mountain. The highest point of the Kibo mountain range is Uhuru Peak. That's the peak everyone wants to conquer. Trails of different routes wind in ribbons to the top of Uhuru Peak . There are complex and sports routes, there are also easy and walking ones. Some are circular and some are linear. But they are all incredibly beautiful and diverse.

Kilimanjaro routes allow you to get acquainted with the most diverse landscapes of Africa, to pass all weather zones, from the hot savannah and heavy rain, to a snow blizzard at an altitude of five thousand meters. The service on the mountain is arranged in such a way that it allows you to enjoy the ascent every second. Who wouldn't like to wake up in the jungle zone to the sound of birds singing and have aromatic coffee. Or come to the camp after a day's march in the pouring rain, and in the camp a tent is already waiting for you with a neatly laid out sleeping bag inside. And the views! The views that open from the slopes of the mountain are stunning!

Climbing Kilimanjaro does not require special training but to be among those who conquered the summit you need to make a lot of effort and take the preparation for the ascent seriously.

We suggest you climb Mount Kilimanjaro along one of the most beautiful routes - the Lemosho Route. In this case you do not have to go up and down one way. And you will see mountains and valleys from different sides.

Arrival. Arrival of the group at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). You will be met by a representative of a local company and transferred to a 3* hotel in Moshi town. The hotel has everything you need for your comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, polite staff, swimming pool and internet. If you wish, you can go to the city, buy delicious juicy fruits, and visit an art gallery with beautiful African works. In the evening you may sit in the garden by the pool under the incessant singing of cicadas and frogs.

Note: Hotel check-in is at 14:00

Day
2

High-altitude transfer and climbing to the camp Forest camp. In the morning, a local guide with an escort team will arrive at the hotel. He will hold a briefing, after which we will go to the rental center, where those who do not have the necessary equipment can rent it. Optionally, we can stop by the store to buy snacks and drinks. Further we will have a long drive (about 3-4 hours) to the western entrance of the Kilimanjaro National Park - the Lemosho Gate (2100 m).

This is followed by the procedure for obtaining permits and registration with the rescue service. After receiving all the necessary papers, we will get acquainted with our team, pack things and finally start our trekking. From this moment we will be able to start enjoying the most beautiful Jungle views. The transition is quite short; thanks to this you will be able to start the process of high-altitude acclimatization in the right way. The feeling that we are in another world will accompany us all the time. If we're lucky we'll see cute monkeys. The camp for our first overnight stay will be located in the forest zone. When you arrive at the camp, the local escort team will prepare everything you need, set up tents and prepare dinner for you.

This will be your first day of climbing, so there are a couple of recommendations: drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily (it is better to drink a little, but often). At the first sign of Altitude Sickness, inform the tour leader.

Altitude difference: Lemosho gate (2100 m) – Forest camp 2 (3000 m). Trekking distance: 6 km. Trekking time: 3-4 hours

Day
3

Accent from Forest camp to Shira 2 camp. We will have early breakfast and slowly hit the road. Leaving the forest zone we will see how the surroundings are transformed. At first the trees will become lower, then they will turn into a variety of exotic shrubs. On the rocky plateau of Shira we will meet giant cacti, pretty waterfalls, and finally we will see the snow cap of Kibo peak.

In general, the transition from the Forest camp to the Shira 1 camp (3505 m) is extremely easy and interesting. It allows you to fully enjoy the African panoramas and unrealistically beautiful views. This will allow us to begin a moderate process of high-altitude acclimatization. Upon arrival at the Shira 1 camp, lunch will be prepared for you. We will take some time to rest and move on.

After lunch it will be an easy trek to the second high-altitude camp Shira 2 (3850 m). It is from the Shira 2 camp that, in case of good weather, a view of the Meru volcano (the fifth peak of Africa) will open. And tonight we have the most fantastic sunset and view of the valley.

Altitude difference: Forest camp (3000 m) - Shira camp 2 (3850 m). Trekking distance: 18 km. Trekking time: 7-9 hours

Day
4

Accent from Shira 2 camp to Lava Tower and descent to Barranco camp. We have to wake up early and enjoy the beautiful African sunrise overlooking Meru peak. Breakfast will be served for you and then we will depart from the Shira 2 camp (3850 m). Today we will have a strength test. We will climb Lava Tower. There will be many ups and downs today. If the weather permits, we will see unrealistically beautiful views. But even in the fog, everything looks quite fantastic. Lava Tower is located at an altitude of 4600 m. From this point you can climb to the Kibo crater and then to Uhuru Peak. We will make a stop for lunch at an altitude of more than 4600 m at the lava giant.

For those who have never been at such an altitude it will be difficult and some health problems may arise. For a successful acclimatization it’s good to spend at least 1-2 hours here, so it will be a good place for lunch and rest. Next, there is a descent to the Barranco camp (3900 m). We have to go through a fantastic Cacti forest and get to the Barranco wall, which is impressive in its size. The next day we have to conquer it, but do not worry, as it has a very easy hiking trail. Another beautiful sunset reflecting off the rocks of the Barranco Wall is waiting for us today.

Altitude difference: Shira 2 Camp (3850 m) - Lava Tower (4600 m) – Barranco Camp (3900 m). Trekking distance: 12 km. Trekking time: 6-8 hours

Day
5

Accent from camp Barranco to Karanga camp. Another opportunity to get up early and see the rising sun. We will have breakfast and start climbing the Barranco wall. Climbing the slope of the gorge (barrancos) at first glance seems difficult, but in fact it is not difficult at all. We will spend about an hour going through this rocky section. When we are up we will have a little rest. We will be able to take a picture of the background of the Kibo volcano. Then a more difficult trekking to the Karanga camp begins, as there will be constant descents and ascents along the way. After we get to the camp, you will be offered a hot lunch.

Next, we will go on trekking to the Barafu assault camp (4600) from which we will have a night assault of Uhuru peak (5895 m). Today we will have an early dinner. Today it is best to dedicate your evening to rest and get a good sleep before the night assault of the summit.

Altitude difference: Barranco Camp (3900 m) – Karanga Camp (4035 m) - Barafu Camp (4600 m). Trekking distance: 9 km. Trekking time: 6-8 hours

Day
6

Climbing Uhuru Peak and descent to Millennium Camp. At 11 o'clock in the evening we need to wake up, prepare a little snack and exit from the Barafu camp (4640 m) at midnight. We begin the ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro - the Uhuru peak (5895 m). Climbing is not technically difficult, the height is a much more serious problem! Since most of the trip takes place at night, it is necessary to dress warmly. At this altitude, it can snow and the temperature drops to minus temperatures. By the first rays of dawn we must climb to the top of Stela (Stela point - 5756m). From this point to the top there is very little left, you need to climb only 139 m, but this part of the path is not easy. The beauty that opens around inspires and gives strength.

With a successful ascent, we will stay at the top for a short time, only for a photo of the stele at the very top, and go down. After an hour and a half of descent, we will return to the camp. We will drink hot tea, have a snack and rest until lunch. At noon we will begin the descent down to the Millennium Camp (3820 m).

The camp is located in a forest zone, so after the height it will be very comfortable to sleep here.

Altitude difference: Barafu Camp (4640 m) - Uhuru Peak (5895 m) - Millennium Camp (3820 m). Trekking distance: 15 km. Trekking time: 8-12 hours

Day
7

Descent from Millennium Camp to Mweka Gates. The camp is located in a tropical forest and forces will return to you immediately after a good night's sleep. After a hot breakfast, we will begin the descent to the exit of the National Park - Mweka Gate (1800 m). After descending, the team will gather to congratulate you. Right there we will have a festive lunch and presentation of commemorative certificates of ascent. Those who wish can visit the art gallery and buy souvenirs. Transfer to the hotel will take 40 minutes. Check in at the hotel. Rest. Farewell dinner.

Altitude difference: Camp Millennium (3820m) – Mweka Gate (1800m). Trekking distance: 12 km. Trekking time: 4-5 hours

Day
8
