The Great Silk Road

Through mountain passes of Pamir and Tien-Shan there were trading caravan tracks from India and China to Central Asia, making only a part of the Great Silk Road - trading system of roads of the antiquity and the Middle Ages. The people of Central Asia took part in trade on the Great Silk Road, which extreme points were China in the east and Rome in the west. Since ancient times three branches of the Silk Road passed on territory of Kyrgyzstan. With caravans often there were poets, writers, philosophers and pilgrims. They brought with themselves the traditions, culture and religions. Influence of the Silk Road gives an explanation to an occurrence in region phenomenon of Zoroastrism, the Buddhism, Christianity and Moslem.
The Silk Road has received its name from the silk which for the first time was made and taken out from China. Long time the Chinese masters kept a silk know-how secret. And only later people have learnt that silk becomes from cocoons of a silkworm. This secret has been opened either the monk who has hidden a cocoon in a staff, or the Chinese princess who married and has taken out a cocoon in the high hairstyle.
Besides silk from China lots of other goods were taken out to Europe and from Europe to China. The east supplied Europe with spices, fabrics, exotic bagatelles from gold and silver, rice; Europe gave to the East the weapon. The small territories which were on the Silk Road, such as territory of modern Kyrgyzstan, also did the contribution to trade development on the Silk Road. Local nomads sold to merchants meat, a skin and cattle breeding products. And Fergana valley was always well-known for the "heavenly" racers - dream of the Chinese emperors.
Till now the territory of Kyrgyzstan keeps these memoirs. The most significant are ruins Red River (Navekat - the Sogdian city, VII-VIII centuries), a Burana tower and the city of Balasagun (the state of Karahanids, X-XI centuries), Ak-Beshim (Sujab - a Turkic city, VI-X centuries), a caravanserai of Tash-Rabat (IX century) and others.
