Day 1. Bishkek
Arrival to Bishkek, meeting at the “Manas” airport, Transfer to Bishkek. Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan and the biggest city in the country. It’s a distinctive administrative unit and is a town of the Republican Submission. The very first name of it was Pishpek, then it was called Frunze and only in 1991 it finally got the name it has now - Bishkek . Its population is about 1 million people. The town is located on the north of Kyrgyzstan in Chu valley at the foot of Tian-Shan mountains about 40km from Kyrgyz ridge and about 25km from Kazakh border.
Bishkek has many places for you to see. There are some large museums, the most interesting are: the Historical National museum, the Arts museum and the museum of M.V. Frunze. The center of the town is dappled by the show bills of Opera and Ballet Theater, Russian and Kyrgyz theaters, Bishkek Theater of Drama and National Philharmonic of T.Satylganov.
There are many places reminding people of the Soviet Union period of time. The influence of that epoch is mostly felt in the center where you may still see the row of soviet architecture buildings: Philharmonic, Government building, Historical museum, Victory monument. But you will also be able to see the modern samples of Kyrgyz architecture: Manas monument, monument of Courage, the monuments of akyns (Kyrgyz poets), manaschi (Kyrgyz Manas legend tellers) and local rulers of different times. The interesting fact is that Bishkek is the only town in Central Asia that still has the monument of V. I. Lenin on the central square.
Bishkek remembers its history and will definitely tell it to everybody who wants to visit this small but cozy capital. The town is also known to be the most ecological town of the world due to a lot of green parks keeping the shadow and coolness even on the hottest summer day.
After the city tour, you will go with a photographer for a few hours on the individual photo tour to one of the parts of the city to make colorful and original photos. Our photographer will select a unique scenario and the panorama for you in advance. If you have your own wishes and desires, we will be happy to carry them out.
After that the dinner and rest is going to wait for us.
Day 2. Bishkek - Chychkan
We will leave Bishkek and go to Suusamyr valley. Soon we will dive into the main Kyrgyz road going from Bishkek to Osh and come into the green wide valley (steppe). The mountains surrounding it gave the valley so much space that for a moment one may forget being in the harsh mountain country. Here you may see many nomads who brought their yurts for the summer time. On the green grass canvas all these yurts look like white minarets. We will stop at the cozy guest house in the picturesque gorge called Chychkan.
Day 3. Chychkan - Arslanbob
Today we will go to an amazing mountain range called Arslanbob. It has a large wild forest. The Arslanbob woodland is the largest walnut grove on earth. Kyrgyzstan's first known export to Europe was the Arslanbob walnut. Two waterfalls are located in the area which attract tourists, pilgrims and other visitors during the spring and summer months. We will have a little trek to the first waterfall which is about 25 m and the hike will take us about half an hour. After that we will walk to a panorama place from where you will be able to see the whole gorge. It is a great view and here we will have a little free time to enjoy the nature and make some pictures. Overnight in a small home stay.
Day 4. Arslanbob – Osh
Today in the morning we will have another hike now to the second, big waterfall in Arslanbob which has the height of 80 m. This walk will take us about 2 hours and we will come back for lunch just in time to see the folk show with the national Kyrgyz instruments. After lunch we will continue our way to the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan – Osh. Osh is the second biggest town of Kyrgyzstan after Bishkek with the population about 250 thousand people. It was one of the religious Muslim centers in Central Asia. It is known by its ancient mosques in the center of the town and also by Suleiman-Too (Sulaiman-Takhty, The throne of Solomon), which is one of the places of pilgrimage of central Asian Muslims.
Day 5. Osh - Base Camp under Lenin Peak
In the morning we will go on a tour to the sacred Mount Suleiman. This mountain is one of the most important historical monuments in Kyrgyzstan. It is located in the heart of the Osh city. Until the 16th century it was known as Bara-Kuh. Triple ascent of this mountain is considered to be equivalent to one hajj to Mecca. In one of the caves there is a museum, which we will visit with you. After lunch we will go to the base camp under Lenin Peak, where you will find a little surprise. Dinner. Overnight in the tent.
Day 6. Base camp under Lenin Peak - Osh
Today you will have a fun morning, we won't reveal all the cards, but we promise you that it will be fun :) After lunch you will descend back to civilization, the city of Osh, where you can rest after the cold mountain peaks. Dinner. Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 7, 8. Osh - Kazarman - Son-Kul
These days the long journey is waiting for us. In the morning after breakfast, we will start our tour to the lake Son-Kul. The road will pass through the village of Kazarman, where we will stay for overnight in a family of local residents.
The next day we will finally get to the lake.
Son-Kul is the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan. The surface has an elevation of 3016 meters above the sea level. Its area is 275 square km, depth - 15 m. From late September to mid-June it is covered with ice. Ice thickness can be up to 1.5 m, 18 streams flow into the lake and only four of them have constant flow, the only riber that flows out of the lake is river Son-Kul. Fauna of Son-Kul is extremely diverse. In summer there are different kinds of nesting ducks, gulls, and other waterfowl. Only in the summer you can thoroughly enjoy the blue colors of the lake, to see the life of modern nomads who live in Kyrgyz yurts and can taste the national dishes of these hospitable people. Only in the summer they come to Son-Kul jailoo (pastures), paying tribute to their ancestors, the nomadic Kyrgyz, who spend all their lives in the transitions from one place to another, going into in the mountains in the summer with their flocks and coming back to the valleys for winters.
On the banks and the surrounding slopes grow a lot of herbs. Here is a paradise for livestock. But the most striking are the fields of edelweiss, as they have the form of stars, it seems that the stars are not on the sky, but here, right under your feet and you may not just reach out to them, but even give one of the stars to your most beloved person.
Night in a yurt.
Day 9. Son-Kul – Kochkorka – Kadji-Sai
In the morning we will enjoy the view of Son-Kul and after breakfast will continue our way. We will see the amazing change of landscapes like in kaleidoscope. We will drive to Kochkorka village where we will have lunch and see the crafts show. You will see how Kyrgyz people make their carpets and will have a chance to visit the handicrafts museum where you may even buy some souvenirs for your relatives and friends. After that we will be transferred to the southern shore of Issyk-Kul lake to Kadji-Sai village where you may enjoy the sunset combined with the blue waters of the second biggest alpine lake in the world. Overnight in the "Al-Hayat" guest house.
Day 10. Kadji-Sai - Tamga
After breakfast we will go to one of the villages on the shores of the great mountainous lake, but at first we will visit the “Fairy Tale” gorge. The whole originality of the place is the frozen in bizarre forms colorful rocks, like after the eruption. Solid clusters made of limestone and sandstone are bulging from the colorful soil and the place looks like the ruins of ancient castles. The most surprising is that the architect and sculptor of the place is the nature that used only water, sun and wind as instruments. Besides the fancy castles and fairy figures there the structures can also be considered as many-domed churches, and crenellated walls with loopholes; so for example - Sandy fence, which is very much like a "Chinese wall", stretching for several kilometers along the southern shore of Lake Issyk- Kul.
After that we will continue going to Tamga village and have a little horseback riding to the place called TamgaTash. This is a sacred place for Buddhist. Many pilgrims come here every year and spend 2, 3 days near the stone. The stone has Buddhist script on it and all the letters are clearly seen and very good preserved. Near the stone you may see many bushes with ribbons tied to their branches. It’s a Buddhist tradition to make wishes. You may try to do the same and who knows maybe your deepest dream will finally come true. Free evening to have a good rest and enjoy the view of the lake.
Overnight in “Tamga” guest house.
Day 11. Djeti-Oguz - Karakol
After breakfast we will drive to Djeti-Oguz gorge. The gorge is located in 60 km to the west of Karakol on the northern slopes of Terskey-Ala-Too. This is one of the most beautiful places in Kyrgyzstan. For 25 km on both sides of the gorge the fir trees are growing at first merging into small groups and then turning into huge forest mass. The gorge finally becomes a wide Kok-Djayik valley which is totally covered by fir forests up to the very top of the ridge. Over the forest zone (about 3000 m) in the wide valley of about 15 km there are amazing subalpine and alpine meadows called Djailoo.
During the spring and the summer Djeti-Oguz gorge turns into a kind of flower holiday, among which you may see the silver stars of Edelweiss flowers, alpine daisies and asters, and nard (golden root). In the Autumn the gorge is being a colorful canvas as it’s covered not only by coniferous forests but also by the leaf trees.
From the northern Karakol and Oguz-Bashi summits’ slopes Archa-Tor and Ailanysh rivers start their flows and at the end combine into Djeti-Oguz river. Today we may have a little hike to a beautiful waterfall, see the great stone creations "Seven Bulls" and "Broken Heart" and will listen to some interesting legends connected with these rock formations.
After this we will go to Karakol town. Upon our arrival to Karakol we will be accommodated in “Amir” or “Green Yard” hotel. After having some rest we will have a little walk around the town, visit an ancient Dungan Mosque, and a Holy Trinity wooden Church which was first built without a single nail. Free time, rest, dinner at the hotel.
Day 12. Karakol - Cholpon-Ata
In the morning after the breakfast we will be transferred to Cholpon-Ata – the town which is located on the northern shores of Issyk-Kul lake. Here we will visit petrogliphs (stone inscriptions) left on the stones by ancient artists. On the territory of 42 hectares there is a great amount of stones of different size with petrogliphs, which were drawn by the ancient settlers of this territory. To see all the pictures in this open air museum one will need several days, each drawing is very interesting and contains the whole history of ancient people.
There are many places like that around Kyrgyzstan and the one in Cholpon-Ata contains pictures of the Bronze Epoch. First tribes to leave their pictures were Andron (II mil. BC.), then Saki who left the pictures of the “animal style” and the very late stone inscriptions are dated by Turkic time (VI-IXc. AC.). The cotton copy of the biggest boulder we may see in the historical-cultural museum in Cholpon-Ata town. The artist put on the canvas which is of the same size as the real stone a herd of mountain goats, a group of hunters and tamed snow leopards. The stone inscriptions you will see have the pictures of leopards, single and pairs of deer, camels, riders which prove the fact that Great Silk Road was once going through these territories. We will also visit the historical museum of Cholpon-Ata and religious complex Rukh-Ordo. Rest.
