Self-drivingTrips in China

China by the eyes of the tourist

Want to go to China? Then let's go! And you may do so in the truest sense of the word, by your own car! Such a method of travel, in spite of all the limitations, will give you incredible freedom to meet with the other world, so familiar, but at the same time completely unknown and incomprehensible.

When we say the word CHINA, not only imaginary goods but also centuries-old history, unimaginably large area and diversity of cultures and traditions are coming to our minds. All we may think about: tea, silk, ceramics, and in its present form and in principle there is no exception, it all comes from China. (Made in China), Zhongguo(Middle Kingdom) or the center of the world - as the country is named by the Chinese themselves. At one time it was the mysterious country which for two millennia has been closed off from the world by the Great Wall of China which had protected the peace and way of life of a great empire.

China has always attracted Europeans and wondered: since the time of Marco Polo and his travels. Widespread fascination with Chinese culture began in the 18th century. To this day, China beckons travelers from all around the world.

Now that China has become available for drivers, we have opened new opportunities, look at the places to where ordinary tourists never get. We have opened the possibility to pass on the highest mountainous roads of the world, to overcome the mountain passes, the height of five thousand feet. To see more sights, concentrated not in one place. Plan your route, by your "like" and "want". Car travel always carries more freedom, and with China it's not an exception.

China is a country of unrealistic contrasts. Vast plains, densely populated and planted rice fields, mountains and snowy peaks rising 8.000 m, sand dunes and endless deserts, Broad Rivers, idyllic lakes and dazzling green rainforests. Cut off from the rest of the world tribes, wandering with their flocks, and multimillion-dollar cities. Severe frosts and unbearable heat.

And all this is China. The abundance of natural beauty and history attractions, diverse culture, long history and ethnographic diversity make China extremely attractive to travelers of any kind.

Just the thought "Drive through Tibet by your own car" draws the most mystical images in one's mind, captivating and beckoning. Yes, the "Tibet should call, believe it or not", - say those who once visited slopes of Kailash. We can confidently say that Tibet is "Calling" all owners of expeditionary SUVs who dream of winding roads going off to heaven. And if you are lucky enough to own four-wheel drive motor homes, it is likely that Tibet is on the list of your plans at No. 1.

In the next two years we plan two great self driving tours through the whole Tibet (China) for Caravanners,  Motorhomes, RV and Camping cars.

Self-driving programs "Trans Tibetan"  season 2015-2016

September - October 2015

May - June 2016

Day 0. Kyrgyzstan. Meeting of all crews in Bishkek Hotel Asia Mountains. Hotel Asia Mountains is located in the center of Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and has a large parking place for camping cars. Here you can also make use of water, electricity, shower and swimmining pool.
Today, we also cover the upcoming itinerary with slide show of our previous self-driving trips in Tibet and explain the nuances of travelling to China on your own vehicles. In the evening we will have a gala dinner in honor of the start of our trip in Asia Mountains hotel.

Day 1. Kyrgyzstan. Departure from Bishkek at 09:00. Today we will drive 450 km. This will be our first joint experience of travelling in convoy. Our first paragraph becomes Historical Landmark "Burana Tower", built in XI century. A short tour and then continue our way to the caravansary "Tash- Rabat ", where we will stay for the night. On the way to Tash-Rabat, we are going to see an amazing variety of landscapes of Kirghiz mountains and will have a delicious lunch in a yurt, in the best traditions of the Kyrgyz people. This dinner we specifically included the program as it would be a crime not to try all those goodies that hospitable Kyrgyz hosts offer to their guests.
In the evening we will come to our place of overnight, visit the caravanserai "Tash-Rabat "and will settle for the night.

"Among the monuments of medieval architecture in Central Asia there is nothing like a stone fortress Tash Rabat, hidden in a remote valley of Kara- Cajun, at an altitude of 3100 meters surrounded by snow-capped peaks and ridges of towering central Tien Shan, near the border between Kyrgyzstan and China. Through a high mountain valley in the upper reaches of Naryn River the main caravan route of the Silk Road that linked the Fergana Valley to the shore of Lake Issyk -Kul and Kashgar oase was anciently held. Therefore, human civilization, despite the brutal climate and unruly nature of the high mountains, entrenched in these harsh lands very early, leaving many traces of the original culture. Historians and archaeologists have not yet agreed, who, when and why built in outback majestic Tash Rabat - the largest and most complex structure of stone, which has no analogues preserved in the vast expanses of the Gobi Desert to the Caspian Sea. Some researchers believe it to be the Christian monastery which once served trade caravans coaching inn, others insist on its defensive value. Detailed familiarity with the unique monument and its surroundings, as well as the study of written sources on the history of the Asian Middle Ages do not give definitive answers, but only kindle interest in the puzzle of surprising bastion".
